Stagecoach Group is currently reviewing the key performance indicators for each of its divisions as part of the introduction of a new Group carbon management programme, which will include specific targets for improvement.

The current KPIs for each of our divisions are listed below, along with details of our performance for the 12 months to 30 April 2008. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to continuous year-on-year improvement, with a focus on moving annual averages.

  • No breaches or violations
Reportable environmental incidents
  • Two minor petroleum releases occurred during the year.  No environmental impact was identified and no fines were issued.
Compliance with New York City Local Law 41
  • All catalytic converters and mufflers replaced with best available technology.
  • 103 buses retrofitted with particulate filters, reducing particulate emissions by 90%.
Adherence with environmental protection and conservation policies of the US Environmental Protection Agency and State Department
  • Compliance with new State anti-idling laws (3 minutes)
  • Working towards completion of Storm Water Protection Plan and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures.
  • Comply with new State SPCC.
  • To date, 12 locations (52%) are in complete compliance, with a target of 100% compliance by 30 April 2009.
Environmental training as mandated by Federal and State authorities
  • Two-day environmental training session attended by senior operations and safety managers at all Coach USA locations.
  • Training covered areas such as underground and above ground storage tanks, leak detection, inventory control, housekeeping, registrations, Federal and State regulations, and self-inspections.

Measures to reduce direct emissions
  • As part of our compliance with engine emissions requirements under Ontario's "Drive Clean" programme, 112 vehicles were tested during the 12 months to 30 April 2008, resulting in a 99% pass rate on first test.
  • A total of 20 coaches were replaced with new vehicles, equipped with the latest engine technology.
Reduce electricity, natural gas and water consumption at each of our facilities
  • Electricity consumption decreased by 2.5%
  • Natural gas consumption decreased by 3.1%
  • Water consumption increased by 1%
