- Capacity more than doubled on London-Glasgow overnight service
- Further extra coaches planned if bad weather continues
megabus.com, the UK’s leading low-cost inter-city bus service, has more than doubled capacity on its service between London and Glasgow this evening to help passengers hit by flight cancellations at Heathrow Airport.
Fog has forced the cancellations of hundreds of domestic flights at many airports around the UK since Wednesday, causing a backlog of thousands of passengers.
megabus.com, which offers travel from £1 between nearly 40 locations around the UK and carries 2 million passengers a year, today (21 December 2006) doubled capacity on its main overnight service from London to Glasgow.
Two extra coaches have been added to the 11.45pm departure out of Greenline Coach Station in Victoria, increasing the number of seats on the service from 89 to 187.
At lunchtime today, less than 50 seats were still available on the service, which arrives into Glasgow’s Buchanan Street Bus Station at 7.30am on Friday.
A megabus.com spokesman said: “We are very aware many passengers have been affected by the bad weather that has hit airports across the country, particularly London Heathrow, and people are desperate to make it home in time for Christmas.
“We have been working hard over the past 24 hours to source additional vehicles to help out. As well as the extra coaches on tonight’s service, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and, if possible, put on further extra vehicles where there is demand.”
Passengers can book seats online at www.megabus.com or by calling 0900 160 0900 (lines are open 8am to 9pm seven days a week).
