Megabus.com, the low cost intercity bus operator, is the new shirt sponsor of St Johnstone Football Club, it was announced today (31 May 2004).
Transport giant Stagecoach, which runs megabus.com, has signed a one-year deal with the Perth club.
The megabus.com name will appear on the Saints first and second team strips during the 2004-05 season.
Brian Souter, Stagecoach Group’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted megabus.com is teaming up with St Johnstone FC to become the club’s new shirt sponsor. Stagecoach is now an international transport company with operations around the world, but we have always kept our close links with our home town of Perth.
“Megabus.com has grown tremendously in a very short space of time and is now the No.1 choice for thousands of passengers every week. We wish St Johnstone similar success in the coming season.”
St Johnstone Chairman Geoff Brown said he was pleased megabus.com was willing to support St Johnstone FC, particularly at a time when many Scottish football clubs were faced with financial problems.
”I’m very appreciative of the support provided by megabus.com,” he said. “I’m particularly pleased that we have not only managed to once again attract a significant major organisation to become associated with the club, but one which has its roots firmly in Perth.”
Megabus.com covers 20 major towns and cities across the UK, including Perth, with fares starting from as low as £1.
